Teach Soap

I have finished a batch of oatmeal lavender soap and experience something i think was seizing but i dont know what caused it the soap with the oatmeal was getting hard before my eyes and i was unable to swirl it formed a firmer center and i added the color around and on top i am not sure what will happen nor what caused it scared me silly the top color is looking good as it ages . the loaf is getting firn maybe it was the oatmeal or the essential oil i used lavender 40/42

Lavender usually behaves well. It was most likely the oatmeal soaking up the oils and water, causing it to thicken up.

What was your recipe? How much did you superfat? At what temp did you combined oils and lye? Did you use a stainless whisk or a stick blender? What type of oatmeal? Did the soap gel? I use Lavender 40/42 and oatmeal with no problems. Don't use the quick cooking oats.

Lavender (40/42 or Hungarian) accelerates some in my base recipe, but not to the point of soap on a stick! Yikes!

I used old fashioned oatmeal added at light trace thinking that it would give me more time to work I added lye at 97/106 thinking also it would give me more time oil was 97 the soap did get hard and I used a stick blender but only to mix the oils and hand whisk the oatmeal
