Teach Soap

Hi,

I'm trying to get a red or blackberry colored soap. I used Merlot Mica (B.Berry) which gave me a nice, brown-red color but has anyone had success with a richer red? I don't want too much concentration for bleeding issues but what colorant should I use?

Does anyone have any photos of good colors??

Try using ruby red mica from the conservatorie, gives a really nice rich red. I add a tiny bit of purple (like violet mica, also from conservatorie) for a deeper, more berry red.

This is a peppermint swirl soap made with just ruby red mica, it is a slight bit more red in soaps without milk.

I forgot to mention that I want to create a bar without swirls. Totally red (or something close). Have you ever worked with that?? I know red can be tough, or at least that what I've heard.

Yeah, my colour tester bars are just solid colour! This one works beautifully, you can achieve a nice rich true red with it quite easily. The above soap was around .25- .5 tsp mica ppo, for a deep rich red I use 1-1.5 tsp ppo.

I have maybe 15 or 20 different reds, and this one seems the nicest! I prefer it to FD&C / lake dyes too, I find it is a deeper and more rich shade.

Her video is pretty good Much more true colours than the soaping101 video. In that one her ruby red sample came out as bright orange and she used about twice what I do. No idea why hers was orange LOL
