Hi,

I've heard that putting in sugar will add to the lather. My question is... are there any side effects to doing this , like drying out the skin, longevity of the bar, etc. Also, how much sugar should be added?

Thanks!
DC

It doesn't help the lather, it helps give bigger bubbles.

I use 1 TBSP ppo. I dissolve it in my water way before adding my lye to it. No side effects.

The only effects that you might encounter is the soap might try to overheat.

I tried this after hearing others talk about it on this forum and it really does work, just plain ole table sugar.

A simple solution and such a shame that commercial soap companies will dump detergents into their products to create this same effect...and all it really takes is sugar! :o It does cause the soap to heat up more though, so I will usually put the soap in the fridge so it won't gel or leave it uncovered and watch it closely.

Yep wonderful stuff. Certainly makes for a bubbly affair. I make a sugar syrup up and store it in a jar. Have it on hand so just add to oils then along with the lye. No problem with the crystalisation issue. :D
