Teach Soap

I have been playing around with swirls and have a question. What percentage of the batch do you color? Say I have a 48 ounce batch and want the soap to be white with a one color swirl. How about a 2 color swirl? I always seem to have too much colored soap and it takes over the white portion. I made a batch this weekend that was 51 ounces of oils. I colored 14 ounces purple and 14 ounces wine and swirled into the rest which was white. The soap turned out to be mostly purple and wine. I only swirled through it back and forth in the log mold 1 time. Can anyone help me with getting it right? Thank You .

When I want the soap to be mostly white, I only color 1/4th of it. If I want 2 colors, I take out 1/4th of my batch and split that into 2, same with 3 colors, etc. Plus making sure that your white soap isn't too fluid when you mix the other color in can help also.

Thanks Genny and Linda. I couldn't find that info anywhere. I was definitely coloring too much of my soap. I didn't think about dividing that 25% in two when adding a second color but that makes so much sense. It is so great to get answers from experienced soapers.

LOL, I very rarely make a mostly white soap so I had to think about this one. But if I were going mostly white, I guess I'd say that I'd do the same, 1/4 sounds like a good proportion.

I typically divide into thirds. One third the colored portion and 2/3 the background portion. If I want less color than that, I divide into fourths. It really is a matter of your taste/design so play with it and have fun!

typically I do roughly half and half. If I am using 2 colors plus white, however, I do roughly 1/2 white and 1/4 each of the other colors.
