Teach Soap

I have used lard in several batches of soap and really like these bars. I am wondering if tallow gives the same results or brings something different to the bars. I have not noticed any meat smell and the lard makes a really nice white bar.

I always use lard, and sometimes add deer tallow, but I don't notice any difference in the soap when adding the tallow.

Love both! I went through 50# of beef tallow this summer but I think I prefer lard. Some soapers like a combination of tallow and lard in their soap.

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but they sure have some great ideas!

Honestly, after smelling beef tallow while melting it... I'll never use it again. OMG it stank! Made me throw up Mom says I used to vomit when she rendered it when I was little too LOL. I don't mind using other tallow though (pig (aka lard), deer, elk etc... all good!). The only ones that I find super smelly are beer and bear. The smell does NOT come through once it has been saponified though!!

I prefer tallow over lard and didn't mind the smell at all, actually...smelled like beef stock to me when I rendered. I just got tired of having to render tallow because I had to render each batch twice, so it got old fast. Lard was much easier to use, and it's a little more conditioning I think than tallow, and I never noticed a meat smell come through from either.
