Teach Soap

Where have I gone wrong. I hp a batch and it didn't gel. Can it be from a water discount when I should have used full amount due to evaporation. The batch reached a hevy trace . I used a sample last night and it was sudsy and soap as it should be and ph was 9 but it has me stumped.

HP is cooking it in the crock pot, on direct heat on the stove or the oven. Is that what you did? Soap does not need to gel in order for it to become soap. pH of 9 sounds fine.

Yep cooked the batch in the crock pot for 2 hours but all it seemed to do is get hot. No foaming as seen on Youtube and Vaseline look etc.
This was my first time at using this process as I usually CP or CPOP. I have reprocessed a previous batch when there was a lye issue in the crock pot but this effort was my first attempt at HP.
Think I shall try again and use full amount of water and see if that mnakes a difference. Shall post results. Thanks

When I do hot process in the crock pot, I don't get any foaming. My soap turned the consistency of applesauce or mashed potatoes. Sounds like you did fine.

Mine doesn't get foamy either! Goes like applesauce. Sounds like your batch worked just fine =D

Thank guys. I tried a bar tonight and it suds and acts like it should just a little soft still. I was expecting it to rise more as it progressed and it really didn't change in appearance very much but obviously I was more tired than I thought as the PH is 9 and I have soap. Thanks for letting me be a dork

I cook mine on low and stir from time to time, so it doesn't rise at all.
