Teach Soap

I'm getting ready to try my first rebatch soap and I have a couple of questions. First, is it necessary for my CP soap to have cured the full 4 weeks before I grate it? After the soap has been made, do I need to let it cure 4 weeks as you would normal CP soap or can it be used sooner? Thanks!

You can grate the soap as soon as you cut it, if it wasn't gelled and is still sticky and new I'd wear gloves (lye can remain active in non-gelled soap for a couple of days after pouring). After your rebatch is cooled you can cut it and technically use it right away (like HP), but it does benefit from a cure of at least 2 weeks!

Are you apprehensive of using lye? Is that why you're not comfortable making cold process soap and use rebatch instead? You can rebatch any new soap right away.

No, the lye is not a problem - I've made many batches of CP soap. I want to rebatch because my last loaf of soap didn't turn out the way I wanted and I would like to just reuse it rather than throw it out. It's good to know that I don't have to wait a month before turning it in to something else.
