Teach Soap

Hello everyone,

I need help. I made my first ever batch of soap over 5 weeks ago now. At the time I put all the unwashed equipment aside because I had to go feed my baby..after that, the moment never came. Here I am nearly six weeks later and my unwashed equipment is still sitting there. I looked at the jug I used for the lye and there is lots of dry lye powder in it. How should I wash this? Isn't it dangerous for me to pour water over the dried lye powder? I want to make more soap but am very confused as to how I should wash this up first. Bear in mind,I have no dishwasher. Please help!

Go ahead and put water in that lye pitcher. Leave it sitting so the residue can dissolve. Then rinse, rinse, rinse with water. How did you end up with lye powder in your pitcher? All the lye should dissolve when you add water. There should be no lye powder left in the pitcher.

Thanks for responding. I don't know how the powder ended up in there. I assumed when I used the lye water some drops may have remained and dried up.
So, it's safe for me to wash this out with water now? Or should I just buy a new jug?

Just rinse really well and pour it down the drain (helps clean the drain). I personally would wear rubber gloves for protection and I would also use the laundry/garage sink unless you rinse your sink really well. Don't want to chance a tender baby bottom coming into contact with it just to be on the safe side. Unless your plastic pitcher was the restaurant drink variety, your pitcher should be fine.

The reason I mentioned the restaurant drink variety is that everyone of those has developed cracks in them and you don't want fresh lye water leaking all over (don't ask how I know .
