Teach Soap

Hi guys,

I made a small batch of soap last two weeks ago and I realised that when it started to dry there was quite a lot of ash. I tried washing it off yesterday and that when I noticed that my hands were left really dry. So today when I sliced all the ash off to a nice healthy core, the results were so different...it's as if ash is more acidic when formed on the other layer of the soap.

Anyone had a similar experience?

I dunno what the ash is made of....but it could be more basic, since lye is a base...

sorry when I said ash, I meant that funny white stuff at the top of the soap when it dries

^^Right, but what I'm saying is if anything, wouldn't it be basic, since lye is a base, resultant soap is a base...I don't know why the funny white stuff would be acidic...

Now I am wondering about what I did and if the too much heat escaped when I finished and covered it. You see what happened was my mixture was had fille the container completly so I tried to cover it without any spillage. I did not use a towel as I usually do, just the a plastic cover.

My understanding is that soda ash will have a slightly higher pH than the rest of your soap. I personally wash or cut it off if it ever forms in my soap (and it does, depending on a whole host of factors).
