Can Crisco w/Palm be used as a substitute for full Palm oil? I have been playing around with SoapCalc and it seems to soften the soap quite a bit. Does this stay true as it ages or only softer for unmolding purposes? Would it harden over time? If so, what is a harder oil to use with Crisco without putting the Coconut oil above 25% so that it isn't too drying.
Here's the recipe I was playing with:
Beeswax 1%
Castor 8%
Coconut 25%
Olive 36%
Crisco or Palm 30%

I saw someone mention that the INS # should be about 160. With Palm it is 154 but the Crisco put it way down to 135. I haven't really paid much attention to this number before but am just curious. I bought some Crisco to save $ on shipping the big 7 lb bags of Palm oil so am trying now to figure out a good recipe with it. I also found a good price on some sweet almond oil at a local store that would save on the shipping too so I need to find how to use it also but with the Crisco that seemed way too soft. I know that the Olive oil shows up as a soft soap but it cures hard so I was wondering if Crisco was similar in the way that it cures.
What do my soaping friends think?!

Thanks!
Sherri

I thought Crisco was mostly soybean oil.

SoapCalc actually has Crisco w/palm in its ingredient list. Input your recipe on that one and then you can play with it indefinitely. Sometimes you have to hit calculate 2x before it will update. If you don't like the results, just close the results window to get back to the calculation window. I don't use shortening or beeswax in my soap, so I can't be of help in that way. Sorry

The Crisco ingrdients I bought say " soybean oil, fully hydrogenated palm oil, partially hydrogenated palm oil....". It doesn't say the percentages but it is listed on Soapcalc.
