I'd like to try making round "logs" of soap using a PVC mold. Any hints before I try to get one together? After putting on an endcap, can you line the interior with freezer paper (make it like a tube shape and put it inside)? How hard is it to get the soap out? Any height that I should stay "under" so it doesn't get too cumbersome to deal with?

My PVC round molds are 12". I put mine in the freezer, then run hot water over the outside to get the soap out. I don't line mine, but they are well seasoned now.

Irena---do you think the freezer paper in there would even work?
Also, when you first used the molds (before they were seasoned), what did you use to keep the soap from sticking to the mold?

Carrie, mine is also 12" and it holds about 2# of soap. I had a heck of a time getting the soap out the first few times I used it - even with freezing, etc. Somewhere I saw a video where the soaper used a plastic bag like newspapers come in as a liner. It seemed to work pretty well. Just a thought. I ordered BB's column mold and liner...it seems so much easier!

I'm going to use my PVC mold today for shaving soap and will line it with freezer paper to see how that works. 8)

I just used my pvc pipes for the second time!! the first time I tried lining with wax paper - that was a mistake! The paper tore and was a mess! That batch had some problems anyway and had to be rebatched this second time all I did was rub mineral oil on the inside of the pipes. I used plastic wrap on the end then a plastic sandwich bag over that held on with a big rubber band. My molds went right into the freezer after pouring. The next morning I took them out of the freezer and left them on my counter for another 36 hours. I froze them again for a couple hours before taking them out of the mold. I used a soup can to push them out and they came out so easily!! I was thrilled!!

Here's a picture!

and then cut:

One of the columns had a crack in part of it - perhaps it overheated a bit, I'm not sure - but, for the most part, I loved using the pipes!

Good luck with yours!
Sherri

I use freezer paper to line my pvc mold. Just wrap a piece of freezer paper around your pvc to get the correct dimension then take it off & pull it just a little smaller so it will fit snug inside your pvc and tape the seam all the way down with freezer tape, then put it inside your mold. Be sure to wrap the shiney side so it is on the inside where the soap will touch. Or you can wrap the paper around a cardboard tube then transfer it to your mold. I make mine a little longer than my mold at the top so I have something to hold on to when I pull the soap out. I reuse my liner too if it doesn't have any soap particles stuck to it. Hope this helps!
