Teach Soap

So I've been working with M&P for a while now and am ready to give cp a try. The question I have though is about my stick blender, I have one (that I never use) and it has a plastic shaft, I was wondering if that's safe to use? I know that lye can eat some types of plastic and I'm not sure how to tell what kind this is. Just wondering if anyone has any idea on this. Thanks!

I'm new to soaping, but my stick blender has a plastic shaft and it was fine in the lye. I've read that it's the soft, thin plastics that you can have trouble with and the harder plastics are ok. But I'm sure someone else can give you more information on it.

I'm on ten batches now and am using a stick blender with plastic shaft. I think the blender motor will probably give up before the plastic degrades. I do though rinse my blender in hot water when I'm done using it. It seems to be the best way to clean it.

I had to replace my plastic shaft SB after about 18 months of hard use. It held up much longer than I expected.

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but they sure have some great ideas!

I prefer a stainless steel shaft because plastic can pick up and hold other scents. This is important to me because some of my customers prefer essential oils soaps. They won't touch anything with a fragrance oil.

I'm not going to be doing anything with fragrances as of yet, but that's good to know! I figure since I'm just starting and have this one anyway then I'll give it a shot, and then if I burn it out I'll put out the money for a stainless one. My husband likes that idea for right now too since he doesn't want me to put too much money out until "I know if I'll like it" *eye roll* He clearly has been missing me reading up for the last 9ish months and just getting more excited!
