I've seen some mention of using honey in your soap recipes.
Can anyone explain how this is done or have a good recipe they'd be willing to share?
I have a whole case of fresh honey our bee man dropped off as payment for us letting him put his hives out here and we just don't eat that much honey. Would love to try it in my next batch of soap. :)

You can use honey in any soap recipe. Start out with 1 teaspoon per lb. of oils and then take it from there. Watch the batch so it doesn't overheat due to the natural sugars.

Cool!! Thank you! Do you add it at trace or into the oils before adding the lye?

Thank you! I'm excited to try it. I wish it called for cups of honey instead of just teaspoons...oh well, I'll just have to remember to put some extra in my tea at night. :)

Even using the amount that Irena gave, it can still speed your trace, and if you add an EO or FO that also accelerates trace, things can get out of hand pretty quickly. Not to mention, if you are using a fast moving recipe to begin with or take a steep water discount. It is usually a good idea to get a few batches under your belt before you move into the coloring, honey, milk and other specialty soaps.

Thanks Tammy!
I'll keep that in mind. I also read that palm kernal flakes can speed trace and since that's in the recipe I have it's probably a good idea to wait to try the honey. :)
I think the only thing that saved me during the first batch is that I had everything measured and ready to pour as soon as I hit heavy trace. I would have hated to see the panic in my face if I wouldn't have been prepared. lol

Go to honey.com. There are lots of great recipes that use honey, including masks and the like. :)

Don't be afraid, just be prepared! Still, I suggest waiting until you have a few batches under your belt. Once you are more comfortable with the way things are supposed to go, you can more easily try other things with the confidence needed to handle any issues that may arise.
And if you are blessed, they won't arise, and you will really gain confidence.... Or something will happen, and you will handle it perfectly, and then you will feel like a rock star!
Enjoy the journey!
