 Post subject: mica colourant?

Hey all,

Is it possible to use mica as a colourant? I don't have actually soaping colourant at the moment and wondered if I could use mica for this?

It depends on the mica. It has to be safe for soap and not all mica will hold up in CP soap because of the high pH. Your supplier should be able to tell you if it will work or not.

I got it online but it is definitely for Cp soap.

If it says it's ok for CP soap then you're probably fine. Just double check where you got it from to see if it morphs or not. A lot of micas turn grey or morph into a completely different color in CP soap. I like to use aqua pearl mica from BB cause it morphs to a nice light mint green. Also, I think it's Cellini Red from BB starts out red, but morphs to a peachy color. I use that to color one of the citrus-y smelling soaps I like to make. Have fun!
