Teach Soap

I have seen this term many times, but don't understand what you mean. Could someone please explain "zapping"? Sounds like something I don't want my soap to do.

If you mis-measure and add too much lye, or if you don't dissolve it properly and your soap has pockets of lye, the soap will "zap": you either lick the soap itself, or wet your finger, run it across the soap, and touch it to your tongue. You'll know it if it happens.

Thanks so much for clearing this up. I figured it had something to do with lye being too strong. Now I know what to look for. Making my 5th batch tomorrow (Thursdays are soap making days!) using BB green tea and lavendar FO. Can't wait to see how this goes.

Don't forget to superfat and add all your oils and butters right up front.
