When I made my second batch of CP I noticed brown floaties in the bottom of my oils. I use a pot of water and then a stainless steel bowl on top on the stove set on low to heat my oils while my lye is cooling. I soap @ 100-105 and never more and my lye is the same temp when I add them. I used up the remainder of my oils from my first batch and noticed the brown floaties in the steel bowl. Could it be particles from my palm oil that may have settled at the bottom?? My shea butter soap cupcakes turned out okay but they have brown specks in them. Because I noticed them in my oils before my soaping process I am assuming that's what it is.

Which oil has this and how old is it?

It was palm, 76 coconut oil. I add my shea, castor, olive oil pomace, meadowfoam, and liquid silk last before my lye.

It was 2 weeks after I got it from BB. Not sure how old it was before I received it?
The average temp in here is 71-73. They were kept in the box from my order.

I have used all of those oils before and never had brown specks. Did you add the liquid silk to your lye water or the melted oils? It's best if you add it to your lye water, since it's water soluble.

As soon as I saw silk on the list, I thought, "Yep, that'll do it if not added right."

The floaties were in my palm oil and coconut oil. Not my other oils. I add them before I add my lye. I made a batch before this one and didn't have that problem. Thanks everyone for all the input!
