Teach Soap

Well, obviously DOS is "dreaded ORANGE spots", but can you get "dreaded BLUE spots"? I have one batch of soap where everything seems fine, it doesn't zap, it did not seize, it firmed up nicely. Everything seems fine, but there are blue spots throughout. They don't zap. I did not use blue in this recipe.

So, can DOS happen in other colors?

Did you use distilled water or tap water?

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but they sure have some great ideas!

DOS is oxidation. It happens in old soap, not new, so it isn't that. I suspect that the colour you used is a compound of different pigments and that the blue component didn't fully dissolve before you added it.

Well, I always use distilled water and I did not use any blue in this particular batch of soap. It must be in the other colorant. It looks okay, just perplexing! Thanks for your thoughts on the matter!

At this point, I couldn't tell you because it was about 15 or so batches ago. I was just curious about it. The soap still looks pretty, but it is too far down the stack of boxes to get to in order to get the ingredient list out. It was new to me t get blue dots so I figured I'd see if anyone else ever got them.

I'm know that the quality of the soap is awesome -- it doesn't zap and it lathers well. I have 2000 more bars to make in the next 8 weeks to be ready in time for the festival I'm vending. One batch has blue dots . . . somebody will like blue dots!
