He really is pretty handy, as an industrial mechanic he has to be. But I love that all I had to do was show him a picture figure out dimensions and he'll build it tomorrow. He's going to build me a custom drying/curing rack too, as soon as I figure out what dimensions I want to have for that.

I would love a custom curing rack, but for now, my baker's racks will have to do.

see, I would love a bakers rack but I just don't have the room for one. The rack he's making me is going to fit in my youngest (1 y old) daughter's closet, since there's literally no room anywhere else in this house, and her closet locks easily so it'll keep the soap away from little fingers and animal curiosity. I need a bigger house so I can have a designated clean/soaping room. Oh well, maybe someday ;)

And the first mold is done :) He made it out of poplar, and it's waiting out in the garage for me, he also made me width dividers, a swirling stick (it's a little fatter than a #2 pencil) with rounded corners, a rounded top and a pointier rounded end, and a wider swirling stick about the width of a regular sized spatula, I'm having him make me some length wise dividers too, His wood shop kills are being tested thoroughly! He's going to make a few more molds like the one he did tonight, and a 10x10 x2 1/2 square. And he's decided to do an automatic advancing cutter instead of the simple cutter box I asked for... I do believe he's catching the "bug" too, either that or he's just spoiling me since he knows this will keep me quite busy! ;)

You might want to use a swirling stick made out of plastic instead. Over time, a wooden spatula or a stick will crack and splinter, possibly leaving splinters in your soap.

thanks! I was actually planning on inspecting it and lightly sanding it between each batch :) There's something about the smell of freshly sanded wood that is just amazing!
