Teach Soap

I've had a little idea for superfat but want to run it through with the more experienced soap makers on here before
i go ahead with it.
I have a liquid shampoo called Polytar i use for my scalp as i have psoriasis (prescribed by Doctor)

I wonder would it be ok to use this as a superfat?

My idea was to have 8oz of shea butter and 8oz of coconut oil and 5% superfat of Polytar.
I understand that even if you superfat the lye will take what ever it wants, there for could attack the superfat.

But just curious as to whether this would work or not!!

What are the ingredients in it?

I think all the "extra" ingredients would be a proble. You can make coal tar and pine tar
soap, though. I've seen recipes.

I don't think you would get a 5% superfat with these ingredients as not all of them would saponify. Why not make a regular 5% superfat formula and add a little bit of the Polytar to it.

I hate to be the bad guy, but I wouldn't put any of that stuff in a soap mix. To mention just a few:

polysorbate 80 - nonionic surfactant, will likely accelerate trace!
triethanolamine - a base in its own right
lauryl sulphate - there'll be a lot of this, a powerful surfactant, expect trace to go into overdrive
fragrance - who knows?

I would agree with Soapbuddy. That being said, I don't have any experience with Polytar. I would think it should be added with the other ingredients. I have never 5% superfatted -- always 6% or 7%.

Definitely try a very small batch the first time. See how you like it. Make sure it isn't lye heavy. Then you can do a bigger batch once it is a proven recipe. No sense wasting ingredients.

Be sure to tell all of use how it works out!

You should try some neem oil. I've read that it is great for psoriasis! MMS has it at a great price.

I'll warn you now... out of bottle it stinks to high heaven! Disappears a LOT during the cure though!

Update on the Polytar soap.

It went really well no zapping a little soft but not too bad.
I'm glad i superfatted like normal and then added some of the polytar
Just letting it cure now before i go ahead and use it
