Looking on Essential Depot's site they advertise something called tech lye. I have never heard of this before, is it suitable for cold processed soap making?

It's the grade of lye. You can use technical grade or food grade lye.

Be sure to compare prices though. Sometimes when Essential Depot offers free shipping on certain amounts you can get a better buy for food grade then tech grade.

When I went to order it, I got a message that said they don't carry it any more

so I ordered the food grade.
