Teach Soap

I've been happily melting and pouring for the past several months; all the while working up the nerve to try CP soapmaking. Well, my sodium hydroxide should be on its way to my home (once BB receives my HazMat form), as are some oils and a mulitude of safety gear from Certified Lye...glasses, gloves, aprons, breathing mask (similar to what doctors use), hair nets...even stickers to put on all of my hazardous containers. I even printed and laminated a "what to do in case of lye burn" card to keep in my kitchen. I'm really trying to cover all of my bases. Can you tell I'm nervous? I checked out The Soapmakers Companion from the library (already once renewed), so I'm here to be told (again) that I CAN DO IT!

Another thought:
Has anyone ever gone to use their soap and found it still had some lye in it? I have this fear of thinking my soaps are cured and then finding out, in the shower, that it had pockets of lye.

Properly made soap used with a stick blender should not have any lye pockets in it.
Have you tried http://www.millersoap.com/ for more info and recipes?

PS. Be aware that soap book has some typos in it, so please use a lye calculator for the correct amount of lye. Normal range is 5-6% superfat.
