Just my 2 cents, I had 5 soap molds custom made for me by a local wood crafter .Much cheaper than buying them online. Had him drill a very small hole in the center bottom of each. This takes care of the vacume ( probably misspelled) that happens when you pour soap into a lined mold. It practically jumps out of the mold the next day. I line them with heavy duty plastic garden mulch sheeting that I had a big roll of laying around. Cut them once to fit and tape them in place each time , washing them is so easy and reuseing them for 6 months or till they start looking bad.

That hole is a great idea! Thanks for sharing!

Ohh!! Now I recognise those sheets you're talking about! You can find it in Home Depot and Lowes. Fastest way is to ask someone in one of the isles where the Coroplast sheets are. (Coroplast, Corrugated Plastic) It is being used more and more often in Christmas displays for custome signs (the strands of lights shine through from behind to light them up nicely.) I thought it sounded familiar.

This will give you an idea of what you're looking for, in case you wanted to see it before you buy it.

Well my latest experiment regarding lining a mold is taking a 2 gallon zip lock bag cuting for the main body of my mold. Under the zip lock I lines as per usual with plastic freezer paper. I really like how this worked. The zip lock is washable and reusable.

I'm curious about lining my wooden molds with corrogated plastic, and with another election gone past, there are lots of yard signs available. Does anyone know if the color from printed corrogated plastic would transfer to soap? Yes, I know, I'm cheap! but I would rather recycle the signs than send them to the landfill. Has anyone tried this?

Ljm - black marker? I think every mom has a moment like this. It takes me back to when my dtr wrote on our bedroom walls (dark fushia) with stick deodorant! Wish I had a magic eraser back then.

Hehe, magic erasers are just that, Magic! I use them all the time to help with any sort of wall markings, color stains on counters, taking the lime off the walls in the shower. They don't require nearly as much elbow grease as many other cleaning products out there do.

Origamifox- you could maybe do a small test with pouring a bit of soap on the colored plastic and see if a transfer occurs?

I have a question for those of you using the corrugated plastic (coroplast) liner. Are you pouring straight into this liner and then able to remove your soap cleanly, or do you still have to lubricate the liner before pouring the soap?
I ask because I made a beautiful coroplast liner, but my soap sticks to the plastic, and has to be cut out with a knife. I do use a good amount of olive oil in my soaps, but even after several days the soap needs to be cut out. I would rather not have to lubricate the liner, because I don't really like the residue it leaves on the soap, but if it's my only option I will. Just would like to hear about other people's experience with this. Am hoping, though this is an older thread, that Luigi or others wih experience with the coroplast might lend their expertise.

Thanks!

I pop them in the freezer for a bit and they pop right off. No lubricant needed, just some patience for an extra hour or two.

Hmm. Maybe mine will fit in my chest freezer - but I always heard that sticking the soap in the freezer can damage certain oils and/or fragrances. I guess a couple hours isn't enough to freeze the soap, though. Is the idea to get it to a just-chilled point?
Have you ever noticed any differences between a recipe that has been in the freezer vs. the same one that has not?
Also, does your soap sweat or accrue condensation when you take it out, and if so, does that leave a mottled look on the surface once the water evaporates?

Thanks for the advice, definitely worth a try!

I found a really simple way to line my wooden molds. I've been doing this almost since the beginning. At our local dollar tree they sold those "flexible" cutting boards. They come 2 per pack. I made a template of my mold, and then cut it out on the flexible cutting board. I fold up the sides sand use simple tape (I use either electrical or 2" wide clear shipping tape from the dollar store as well). Slide it into the mold, pour in soap and let set. Since I make the liner a little taller then the mold, all I have to do is grasp the lip and pull out, remove take, and Wala! Out comes the soap, easy and clean. Here is the link to the template I had posted here eons ago..
