Vinca:
I will not include any beeswax, goats milk, butter milk, honey, or Emu oil in my soaps sent in for the Swap (and I don't soap with lard or tallow). Is there anything I'm missing??

Well shoot, I just made my soap today and added 1oz of beeswax? Am I disqualified now??? All else is vegetable oils with the exception of the sodium hydroxide and the green D&C green #8, #5 that i bought from gingersgarden.com? How technical are we going to get?

:? Hmmm, I don't know that it would disqualify you, I just noticed that Vinca asked for a vegan bar. Perhaps you could send her something without beeswax. You have plenty of time!

Well, I thought as far a vegan went, It was not made with any animal products. Beewax, i thought, was a very natural by-product made from bees. I guess I was wrong. I'll need to sit this swap out. It's a nice idea. I thought we were going to make what we'd like and swap to get different opinions. Thank for the opportunity, but please take me off the list.

 OH GOODNESS! Don't back out because of what I said about the bees wax! I may be totally wrong. Your interpretation may be correct. I was looking forward to trying your soap! Please re-consider. Maybe Vinca could clarify if bees wax is OK with her!

SpottedCat - as long as your labels are clear, I think you should stay in the swap! That way, if Vinca doesn't want to use a soap with beeswax, she'll be aware of yours, and the other swappers will still get the chance to try your soap.

I haven't made my soap yet, but just wanted to clarify: Vinca asked for veggie-friendly soap. Vinca, did you mean vegetarian or vegan? Just curious. Thanks!

Heavenly, no need to apologize. I know you were trying to be very helpful to Vinca. I just didn't want to have too many restrictions, it discourages alot of other people that have different soapmaking ingredients that I don't necessarily use, but would love to try. I look forward to the soap swap and can't wait to try your soap as well. I just hope mine lives up to all of yours.

***OH SORRY GUYS!!!***

I am just not a fan of LARD, TALLOW, ETC....

Beeswax, goatsmilk, things that are "given freely" by the animal are ok by me! Veggie friendly (to me) equals not killing the little critters. Vegan is living off what grows in the ground. :D

:D Hooray! All is well, then!

My husband and I are getting ready for a couple of large craft shows, so we'll be soaping every night for a few weeks. I'm trying to use my top-selling fragrances, so I can provide a list of what's available, in case anyone has any scent preferences. So far I have Lavender Amber and White Musk. Tonight, we're making "Pear & Redwood" (waiting for the lye water to cool down as I write this...). But, no promises on the swirling - we're still a little swirl-challenged...

Spotted Cat - I have no doubt that your soap will be fab!!

Got everyone's contact info!

You guys are doing great! A couple of people have had label questions - please, don't worry too much about the labels. I'm only asking that people put the ingredients for two reasons - one, in case somebody has an allergy, they'll have fair warning. And two, sometimes it's fun to go, "oooo, nice... hm, they use castor oil." or whatever.

I'm not a label Nazi, by any stretch. :)

Did we decide on a bar size? Full or only part? I suppose it would help in shipping cost if they were smaller. Should we be sending some money for shipping cost to Magic Hands as well? I like the idea of writting the ingredience down on our soap. We should probably have 9 copies (sm pieces of papers) and send it with the soap or we could compile it via email and send it that way. Do we want to respond back with comment about our soaps to each other like, color, scent, hardness, lather, moisturizing, first impressions, ect? We could design a set of feedback questions and email it to everyone and then after they try the soaps fill them out and send them to the owners.......or is that too much? I know I would love the feedback.

Hi Fatland,
I have just made one batch of soap and plan to make another tonight (my mold makes 8 regular-sized bars). With a little trimming, the bars are measuring 41/4 x 31/4 x 11/4 and weigh a little over 5 oz. In a few weeks I guess these measurements would be a little less. I can cut them across the 4" side pretty easily at this point, although I think that might change their visual impact slightly. Whatever we all decide, I'll go with. I like your suggestions for feedback. I'm planning to attach a label with ingredients. We could just put our e-mail at the bottom, unless that's not a good idea for some reason. I'll pay/send shipping charges however Magic Hands would like. I think Paypal was mentioned, but I'm also happy to send a check with my package, if that's preferred. I'm really looking forward to the exchange. I'm a pretty new soaper, and love all of the ideas and techniques that show up on this board, plus I'm looking for some feedback.
Heavenly Scents - those fragrances all sound great. The various scents are at least half of what appeals to me about making soap, but they have been so tricky and surprising to me in the final product.

Nobody needs to worry about shipping yet - I'll collect that when we're about ready to ship them back out. There's plenty of time. :)
