Yes, your math is correct. A few pennies off because I'm sure you have to pay tax, but close enough for estimating. Depending on your zip code, you can order 76 degree, 40 pounds worth for $57 plus an additional shipping charge. My shipping charge from Golden Barrel is $23 so it's more beneficial for me to buy 5 gallons instead of 20 little louanna's at Wal-Mart.

Thanks Super Soaper for the recommendation of goldenbarrel.com! I ordered 5 gals of coconut and palm oil from them 2 days ago!

My order from Golden Barrell was just delivered today! They told me shipping prices had just gone up, so, including shipping, my total was $149  for a 5 gallon pail of Coconut and and 5 gallon pail of Palm Oil.

I have had an exhausting week at work, especially today, so I was just skimming over this thread a few minutes ago when I saw the post about the coconut oil at Walmart. Surely that can't be as good a deal to buy the Lou Ann Coconut Oil in small packages at Walmart. Did I read that correctly?

I am thankful I can purchase my oils in local stores and that is the one thing I do not have to have shipped!

wow, only 26$ for shipping? That was a really good shipping price! I will have to check them out too. I havent been able to find cottonseed anywhere at a reasonable price, and they have that too I see, so THANKS to OP and to Superman,SuperSoaper! :D

Midnightstorm..you DID read that correctly, LOL! I've been thinking the very same thing since I started pricing CO in bulk online...
I don't buy my LouAna CO from wal-mart, I buy it from our little home-town grocery store. I pay roughly $2.60/lb tax included. To me it's not such a huge savings to order online when I can support a local business and I love that the containers are such a convenient size! If I were making soap on a larger scale, it might be a different story; but I only make soap for us (and for fun, of course!)...so I will continue to purchase locally. I have to add that last weekend I pretty much wiped out the CO inventory of this store, since I was making salt bars AND 100% CO bars, and the manager told me to come in sometime to discuss a discount if I wanted to buy in bulk...I will SOOO be doing that tomorrow! And I think I will pay a visit to our local mom-and-pop owned drugstore to see if they can get good prices on castor oil in bulk! I prefer to spend my money locally whenever possible...

You lucky duck! I haven't found my coconut oil in bulk close to me, except for Smart & Final, but it's oil for popping pocorn and it's colored yellow.

I received the two pails of Palm Oil and Coconut Oil that I ordered from Golden Barrel. Although I definitely had some sticker shock from the cost of that much oil (and shipping) all at once, I'm so happy that I won't have to worry about running out of these two oils all the time, like I used to in the past.

I must say, when it came time to open these pails, I really missed Bramble Berry's cute little microwavable pouches of oil. The pails were very hard to open!

I am 50 years old and I type for a living, so I have a little bit of carpal tunnel problems, along with a weak grip. Maybe that was part of the problem. Or maybe I'm just a weakling. I wrestled around with the first pail like it was an alligator and had no luck at all opening it. Luckily my 84-year old dad had stopped by for dinner, so I asked him for help in opening the containers. Unfortunately he had trouble too.

He asked if I had a pair of pliers to grip the plastic tab better, so I went to the closet and came back with my cute little pink tool case with pink pliers, screwdrivers, etc. My dad just stared at me with a "Are you kidding me" look. He just shook his head sadly, and gingerly chose a pair of pink pliers out of the box. He pulled and pulled and finally got the plastic tab and ring pulled off.

But getting the plastic ring pulled off was only half the battle. My dad then leaned his knee on the middle of the pail and started prying up the lid with a screwdriver, which took quite a long time as he had to go all around the lid, a little at a time. After much sweating, cursing, and tugging, he was finally able to get the lid off. When I saw all that wonderful, precious, glistening coconut oil inside, I decided it was all worth it.

The whole process had to be repeated to get the lid off the palm oil. My dad left shortly thereafter and I'm not sure if he will ever return

Next time get a pail opener. Much easier.
