Yeah I figured that out when i used it. I think i'm going to go with the basic BB kit that has everything for 35 n change. need to get a stick blender, digi scale, goggles and such.

I watched AM's saftey vid and I have a very real concern. the fumes might kill me even if i was not over them. I have a thoroughly trashed upper respiratory system from my parents smoking for 24 years. i get sick at the drop of a hat which always turns into a viral chest infection and then 98 percent of the time full blown bronchitis for 3 to 5 months before it clears.

So as interested as I am in CP, i don't think I am going to trust my body to mixing the lye water. when i get my chest infections and the resulting bronchitis and pnemonia, i hack up my lungs 24/7 for 3 to 5 months. It sucks..my system is very sensitive. if i smell smoke for more than a min, i get a head cold.

Can you have someone else mix it for you?

You can mix it outside. I mix mine in the sink, in front of an open window with the fan on. And I still turn my head away and hold my breath for that first part of the mix. I get cough's really easily so I have to take those extra steps. Plus, I usually forget and start talking right as I'm stirring and breath in lol.

nope. even if i were outside with a breeze and turned away, just a little bit and i am doomed. my system is so super trashed it's not funny.

unfortunately, i am flying solo on this. my parents have no interests in any of my crafts but cross stitch.

you might consider getting a few face masks to reduce fume inhalation risks...note I said reduce not eliminate. Good Luck with your batch. This is a hobby that is very addicting.

How about a respirator? Some soapers use them to mix their lye in.

I'm on a fixed income. my mom has an air purifier for dispelling the scents that cause us both headaches. even with the purifier i still clog up and so does mom...oh well

I can handle small batches of M&P. i don't want to do CP so badly that i take a chance of having an infection. We also have 5 cats, i was going to have a tough issue working around those brats. they get into everything.

i can handle the FO's clogging me up. I'm either clogged or have a running nose all year long. CP is interesting but unless i could eliminate all fumes or possibility of breathing them in, i'm not willing to chance being sick.

Ok I see now, CP is interesting, but not worth wearing something like that. If my dad saw that well i would never ever live it down and i'm under enough stress. I'll do fine with M&P..maybe once i get a job and my own place with no one to point and laugh..i might get one and try it.
