Teach Soap

Thanks everyone for the ideas. I made a batch today, lowered my coconut a little and added a little allmond oil along with my other oils...we shall see how that turns out! I also did 7%superfat!

I am not sure it is going to gel, but I still don't quite understand why people like that so much anyway...other than I have read about faster saponificiaton!

I prefer not to gel. Colors are lighter and fragrances tend to morph less. It's a matter of personal preference.

I let my soap gel pretty much for the same reasons Carrie gave. (Except for the large family!)

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but they sure have some great ideas!

I think I have decided to not let it bother me...if it gels, fine and if it doesn't...still fine, as long as my soap turns out looking and smelling pretty I am good either way! Too much stress to worry one way or another if it won't affect the bubbles and stuff

I used to use 5% superfat but then I have tried 8% and I like the resulted bar more. For me it is silkier or smth

I see a lot of you guys use sunflower or corn oil in your soap. But I have heard the soap often go rancid because of this. Did you see that happen?

And what do you think of "more than 30% of coconut oil in your recipe dries your skin"? Or direct me to where is the discussion about that

Usually my soap gels completely but it's been a weird year weatherwise. I cut the end off a loaf that had been in the mold for 5 days (oops forgot it!) and it was still in gel phase! Cut another loaf open and it hadn't gelled at all except for a tiny bit at the corners. *sigh*

Humidity! I live in high desert country so normally we'd be sitting around 25% humidity. We had a couple days of thunderstorms where it stayed at 85-95% humidity and ~90*F. I turned on the AC to keep my soap cool!

Holy crap, thats hot and humid. I am in Ontario and I was whining a few days ago about the heat and humidity and I am sure it wasn't to that extreme:) My house doesn't have AC so I was keeping my fingers crossed that it didn't last long and reek havick on my freshly made soaps!
