Depends on how much exfoliation you like - I used mostly plain old table salt for the batch I did for my best friend's partner who is a mechanic for a golf course. He can't really feel the salt once he gets the bar wet though he knows it smooths out like river rock. I want to try a coarser sea salt with my next batch for him to see if that works out any better. Its pretty good for grimy paws. I have read that some people use them as facial soaps but I haven't. The combination of the superfat and the very gentle exfoliation of the table salt helps take off the flaking dry skin and leaves my hands very soft.

A salt bar wouldn't work for me, I use soap on a loofah and not directly on my skin. I don't find I get clean enough without the loofah.
