I usually use 5% shea in my recipe, I LOVE shea! The recipe above is almost the exact same as mine, only I do 35% olive and 35% lard.

Thanks everyone. I made another batch today with some changes (less castor) and the addition of some palm. i bought a new scale and what a difference. So much less frustrating. I didn't get any lye burn at all this time either. Lucky batch #7. Did 2 colors too. Now I'll have to look for some butters to try. It still took some time to trace but that worked in my favor. Tried some Titanium Dioxide too. What a fun day I had. Now can't wait till tomorrow to unmold.

You can shorten up your log mold with a piece of styrofoam cut to fit. Then cover the styrofoam with stretch wrap or a plastic bag and put in place. It it isn't deep enough place a jar in behind the styrofoam! This works for me in all types of molds. HTH's[/quote]
