K... do I cut it up? Or leave it as a loaf?

I had one that looked like your second set of pictures! I absorbed back in in a couple days and seems just fine now!

I didn't actually add any colour to it either hehe - that second lot is that colour due to cheesecake FO (went a nice caramel colour) and the goat's milk warming through gel. :D

Still the same.

The first lot of photos hasn't changed much. I actually forgot how bad it was on top and when I went to grab the soap off the shelf, misjudged and stuck my fingers right in the top. One word: GROSS!! It's like liquid petroleum jelly.
Image
When I rinsed it off under the tap, it still left a greasy like feeling on my fingers. Both kids came running with "what, what, what mum, what's gross mum, what, show me" as I was doing a little dance in the kitchen going "yuck, yuck, oooh gross, yuck"

The other loaf is still the same as well - most of it feels soft, like a moist sponge cake...

Is it possible that one of your oils is adultarated? The loaf should not be this soft by now.

The actual soap is hard as a rock. It's only the jelly like substance on top of one, and the top 1-2mm of the other (again, has that jelly stuff on it)

I made another batch last night with the exact same recipe - but used Fig (gag!) and Sage Flower fragrance oils. NOT my kind of smell lol. The only difference was I didn't pop it in the oven. I just left it out. I don't believe it gelled either...

No icky stuff. So I don't think it's the oils since it was the exact same ones used in all 3 batches.

Seems like it was the fragrance that was the culprit then, if your recipe is exactly the same and so are the oils.

Yeah, the only differences are:
- Fragrance
- Popping in the oven vs not
- Gelling vs not (I'm pretty sure the fig batch didn't gel)

Coolah, I've had the same type of oil slick on a couple of my soaps when they overheated slightly. It never completely absorbed back into the soap so I just wiped it off. The soap didn't zap so I just used it as a hand soap rather than a bath soap since some of the oil was missing. 8)

Both batches have been binned!! If you want the details and all the gory pics (including the popping pimple soap!) it's up on the blog. http://coolahcreations.com/blog/2012/03 ... d-captain/
