Wow! What a difference in appearance! As I popped mine in the oven (cpop) it looked rather hard on the top after just 5 hours. Even after 24 hours, mine had only partially gelled and looked like this:

I'm certainly no expert at soap making, but I have heard that pure Castile soaps do take a lot longer to harden up and can take up to 72 hours before being able to un-mould. I'm sure your soap will turn out just fine.

anita, i totally agreed with you....is definately no cure for soaping bugs sucha addictive hobby !!

soap9,im very very new in soaping.....and always tempted to made pure castile soap...i just saw ur photo, is amazing you combined 2 technics , ill try it once i mater my soaping skills a bit ....someone told me the same that castile soap can take up to 72 hrs to set.....my biggest fear is high pH level....

will post photo once i unmould the soap....

Sookie, my Castile was only my 3rd batch ever. I am so new to this also! I was a bit hesitant to try cpop after only making 2 batches prior, but at least now I can say I've given it a try. I bought some pH strips and I actually tested my batches a little earlier to find that they were quite good! The strip was a greenish colour, which according to the chart that came with the strips is a good thing! YAY! I'm sure your levels will be fine. That's always my major concern too. I always worry that it might look like a nice bar of soap, but what if it shreds someones skin!? Hahaha!

Debbie, I got mine online at Aussie Soap Supplies (not sure if I'm allowed to include links..) I think you can get them from aquarium supply shops too.

Linda, the little chart with my pH strips said the reading was around 7? I did it by putting a tiny bit of water on the soap then dipping the strip. Not sure exactly how accurate this is, but more accurate than my tongue I'm sure!

Your tongue is much more sensitive then those strips.

haha - a 9 volt battery??? Is that supposed to make me be LESS scared about licking soap? I have never licked a 9 volt battery...sounds like something my mother would have told me not to do! haha
