Hi powell! If you are rebatching fresh soap, you probably won't need to add additional liquid as your soap melts. If your soap is older, then add 1 tablespoon at a time until it melts. If you add a lot of liquid (like some books say to), the more chance you have of the finished bars warping as they dry.

They like the scrubbiness of the coffee grounds. It's the strongest exfoliant I've made so far.

The fresher the soap, the less water you will need. If the soap is new, there is no need for any extra water.

ahh...posted my coffee soap trouble on other thread, then browsing through, read what has been commented by linda. thanks
hope when i cut the loaf and during curing, the smells will EVENTUALLY goes away.

can someone suggest and essential oils that goes best with coffee soap? not planning to use fragrance oil.
also, if cocoa butter is added, will the smell comes up after curing? thinking to make another batch with cocoa butter.

You can use cocoa absolute (or cacao absolute? I've seen it spelled too many ways), but that can be very pricey. I've done a soap with cocoa absolute, unrefined cocoa butter and cocoa powder and it does smell nicely chocolatey, but only up close, there's no throw to the scent. I've also seen recipes using baking chocolate that apparently carry the scent! Chocolate has a lot of cocoa butter to it so it's not difficult to use as a soap ingredient, apparently!

With coffee, though, I'd be wary; I think it can cancel out scents mixed with it (that's what coffee does!).

I use cocoa absolute and raw cocoa butter in one of my soaps. You don't need a lot of the absolute for the scent to come through.
