Teach Soap

I strive to produce things with the most natural ingredients possible...I don't use fragrance oils, synthetic colorants, etc. I have not used oxides yet but they sound pretty natural to me...although I don't think I would label the product as 100% natural.

Pottery or encaustic paints is not something that one would use on the skin. Chinese used cobalt oxide for their china, but that's not something that you would wash with either. Arsenic is natural, but that's not something that I would ever use. Just because it's natural, that doesn't mean it would be good for soaps or cosmetic use. Mold, germs or bacteria are natural. Would you want them in your lotion? I certainly wouldn't. I will stick with cosmetic grade or lab made for my safety and the safety of my customers.

So Irena, do you conisder oxides & lye on the same level of " natural-ness"?

I haven't used oxides yet (though I have some oxides and micas coming in from brown box today).

Calling it natural is really subjective at this point. Its refined, but refining has a lot to do with REMOVING HEAVY METALS, I don't know about you... but I wouldn't want to be rubbing lead into my skin

Moving the discussion a little bit, as a soaper community we should be demanding less refined oils for soap making. I haven't done a lot of research but it seems the only pros are a clearer oil, and the cons seem to be less nutrients.

Actually, I prefer refined oils. The more unsaponifiables unrefined oils or butters have, the more chance the soap can get DOS.
