Yeah they must be using a higher(?) SAP value for the coffee butter... I've read it can be anywhere from 175 to 200 which seems like quite a range. But I'd definitely "err" on the side of the lower lye calculations if 2 other calculators are showing lower lye amounts.

I'll post a quick shout out to BB over on their FB page which they check constantly.

On BB's calculator I'm getting 4.44 oz lye and 10.56 oz water at a 6% SF with the recipe...
But I have to agree that the amount of cocoa powder is really high... a little bit of that stuff goes a loooong way

Thanks for the heads up everyone!! We do have the correct SAP value for the coffee butter that we sell, which we got directly from our manufacturer. It may be possible that the other lye calculator is using a SAP value from another source. But thanks again for having our backs =)

Different sites offer diff sap values for the coffee butter cuz it depends what it is made with. To know the sap value for your coffee butter you would have to go with whatever your vendor says. Only if you got your coffee butter at BB, would the BB calculator be accurate, or MMS if you purchased it there. My coffee butter was not from either of these places, and the sap value was not the same as what they had listed. I use the soap calc. but they dont even have coffee butter listed.

Also, did you use a fragrance oil as well, or did you leave it natural? If you added scent, then that is also a liquid that needs to be accurate.

As for the stick blender, another issue is that using a regular blender adds more air into your batter, but SB already told you the major issue, it gets the job done. You may get lucky using a regular blender, but it is just that, luck, and it will eventually fail....and with you, it sounds like it already has. So try your next batch with one and see if your oil issue is handled.

I hope this will put Barbara one step closer to solving the Mocha Soap Mystery ... it sounds like a yummy soap

hello... would it be a good idea to mix the cocoa in with H2O or glycerine before adding it to the batch?

oops..I should be much clearer. Sorry. I meant the cocoa powder. I usually mix with glycerine. Avoids clumps & other issues.
