Thanks for that and I am about to try an experiement based on what you have just said and what I have read. Somewhere I read that alcohol can sometimes be used to extract the last of the oil from the olives and I wonder if this is what speeds trace. The last batch I made was a lot slower to trace and although a different recipe from my usual, I also used pomice oil that had accidently been left with the cap off it for a few weeks. I am wondering if this may have allowed the alcohol to disappear somewhat, so now I have opened a new can and poured it in to a large pot and am leaving it uncovered till tomorrow when I will make another batch using my usual recipe. I will report back on my findings. Wish me luck

Hi there, reporting back on the experiement with letting the pomace oil "breathe" and with the first batch made in this experiement it has been brilliant. But I have to add I used a FO that doesn't trace quickly by all reports so that would also have something to do with it. Normally I don't have to use my stick blender much at all and with a lot of FO's only stir to get a light trace. I tried stirring this lot and after a while realised that it was going to take forever and had to use the stick blender. I am so excited about this prospect, so will experiement some more and let everyone know if people are interested.

I use the pomace grade too. it so much cheaper than the VOO or the OO. Olive oil is about 10 dollars per liter here and the pomace is only about 3 dollars a liter.

does the chemicals used to extract the pomace oil affect the moisturizing effect on the bar of soap after curing?
