Grapeseed has a yr to two yr shelf life, so go for it! It is high in polyunsaturates and it is extremely light. It is easily absorbed by the skin and very useful for skin types that do not absorb oils too well, Oh and it doesn't leave a greasy feeling. It has natural non-allergenic properties too, making it good for skin sensitivity issues. It is also often used because it works so well with EO's, by facilitating their rapid penetration into the body through the skin pores.

This is copied from Botanical.com, which is not where I get mine, mine says 1-2 yrs, as does many of the books I have, but this is close. And, the other things I wrote are from many books. You can and should check with where you purchased yours to get their statement. In general though, at least one yr so no worries, especially when mixing with other oils.

Well I tried one more recipe tonight with olive oil, coconut butter, castor oil, and grapeseed oil. We'll see how it turns out. I used a small amount of both castor and grapeseed. It did come to trace nicely and I filled the remaining spaces in my mold. Now everyone should feel better. But now I am officially done making soap tonight.

I thought I'd share what my soap looks like thus far right out of the mold. I think it looks great but I thought I'd see what you experts think.

The far left bars are: olive oil, coconut butter, castor oil
The far right bars are: olive oil, coconut butter, castor oil, grapeseed oil
When should I test to make sure they work out? I have pH strips.

Just use the zap test: moisten your fingertip, touch the soap and then touch your finger to your tongue. If the lye is still active, you'll be zapped like touching your tongue to a 9 volt battery. Or, you can use your pH strips.

Oh - forgot to add that your soap came out well!

You can do it whenever you want. It may zap now and it may not. It just depends on whether or not the lye is still active.

The really hard part will be waiting for it to cure 5 or 6 weeks. But very nice job on your first CP soaps, my first soap bars didn't look anywhere that good ..
