Teach Soap

My favorite way to get purple is alkanet infused oils. I put about 3/4 of a cup of powder into 1.5-2 cups of olive oil, let it sit for a few hours whisking every now and then, then strain it. Then I just add a couple of tablespoons to my soap (taking that out of the olive oil required for the recipe). It comes out beautifully, and it's a natural colorant.

I do the same thing with madder root for red which comes out absolutely gorgeous and a very true red. I've tried madder without infusing it in the oils - just mixed with a couple of tablespoons of my hot oil mixture - and the color is the same, but it's scratchy. I haven't tried adding alkanet without straining, but after my madder root experience, I wasn't willing to risk it.

My alkanet based soap ended up an eggplant purple, almost black. It's beginning to fade though.

you mean there is somthing in my CP recipe that reacts badly with ultramarine pink oxide? And that it works for other CP recipes.? If thats the case what can it be???

I would love to try the pink clay, My favorite FO and EO supplier dosen't carry it. Paying shipping for 1 item isn't practical and my local craft stores don't have it.Sorry if that sounds like whineing.

Is there an Ultramarine that will color lavender in CP? I have blue #1 but would prefer an ultramarine for the batch I have in mind.

Or what about the purple oxide on BB's site?. It says it's a reddish purple. Will it morph red? I want Lavender.

Doesn't look like BB has a purple mica that works in CP. I read the descriptions. Do you know of one that does work? Thanks for your help, Soapbuddy.
