Teach Soap

I make all milk soaps all the time. I use at least .7 PPO of scent. I will order small bottles of scents, make a batch, let it cure, then see how the scent did. Sometimes like Soapbuddy said, it will disappear after unmolding and come back in a few days. Sometimes the opposite happens. Just don't spend money on a large bottle of your favorite FO until you know how it will behave in your recipe. I have found generally that reports of how scents behave don't always apply to milk recipes.

Pretty soap I love the colors, like sherbet, and the fragrance sounds nice too . I think that in 4-6 week then you will be able to tell. It is so interesting how things change in that length of time don't you think!

Since I am just new to this site I know I am pretty late in putting in my two cents.

When I make goat's milk soap I use 10 lb of oil and 4 lb of liquid. So therefore I dissolve the lye in 1 lb of water/ I always put the goat's milk in the freezer to get slushy. When the oils and lye/water cool down to the temp I am looking for (approximately 110), I mix them together. I then immediately add the slushy goat's milk and continue to stir until well mixed.

I use two kitchen aide mixers set on "stir" to make my soap. So there is roughly 7 lbs of soap in each mixer. Just after the mixers have begun stirring, I start adding the fragrance or essence oils a little at a time until the right amount has been added. This will vary depending on the fragrance or essence oil and how strong you want the scent.

When the soap just starts to trace I pour it into my prepared molds. I do not cover the molds nor insulate because I have added honey to my oils and honey heats up the soap to a higher temp and the soap is able to cool slowly, going through the gel stage.

I don't cut the soap until the 24 hours has passed and then cure.

I have not lost a batch of goat's milk soap since I started making it this way. Before when I added the lye to the goat's milk, I'd get the honeycomb effect or sometimes the pockets on top of the soap.
