Teach Soap

I have well water , dingy will happen sooner or later.
I thought about that.

I've been making my own laundry soap for a few months now using Fels Naptha, Borax and Arm & Hammer Washing Soda. I grate the fels naptha and melt in water and then mix the other ingredients in about 3 gallons of hot water. I add 1 oz of FO to this mix. It smells wonderful but I'm looking for a better stain lifting agent. OxyClean irritates my skin so I don't like to use that. I found a natural oxygen agent from Ecostore but haven't tried it yet. I have been using 1 to 2 cups of this soap per load which seems like a lot. If I tried it as powder instead of liquid does anyone think it would work better??

Sorry it took me so long to post my update... I made both coconut and Lard HP so I can use then fast. They both work the same as far as cleaning but I found that Coconut does better in cold water. I use both bars for cleaning around the house as well. It's also great for washing dishes.

Now I have read in another forum that you can add Turpentine or it's substitute to make a stain stick and it's supposed to work really good and doesn't damage colors. I have not tried it my self so I can tell if it's true or not.

You can also use that laundry soap for an insecticide in the garden! Works great and very very cheap as it makes a tremendous amount of concentrate. I made mine with 100% coconut and 1% superfat scented with lavender EO.

I must remind others that as the daughter of an appliance repairman, the nice front loaders we have here in the US will clog up if you use other soap besides the HE. It ruins the pump. I do occasionally use my homemade laundry soap but make sure I add vinegar to the rinse and I use a very little bit. If you have a top loader, soap away!
