I just cut the sandalwood batch that I made yesterday evening. Gelled batch. It has lighter swirls throughout it, but I didn't do any swirling. I actually like the look, but um, I'm not sure it's supposed to look this way. Did the tongue test. No zap.

Thoughts?

Kate, I just did one too w/sandalwood and it has dark-light swirls.

I'm just reading this thread about Sensuous Sandalwood and swirls. That's a scent I used when I was doing some temperature experimenting, and I too have noticed quite a difference between a gelled batch and one that I put into the freezer after soaping cooler. I did add some sandalwood powder which gives some swirling in both batches, but the gelled batch is much darker overall. With this scent, which I just love, I think I'll stick with the cooler approach. Thanks for the Confederate Jasmine recommendation. I love to hear about fragrances that people enjoy.

Thanks for your input. I'm going to soap cooler from now on. Not gelling has to wait a bit for me.

Here's a pic of my gelled Confederate Jasmine. I cut it this morning. It's pretty light. Would be lighter if I hadn't gelled, but I'm gelling right now because although my wonderful DH made molds for me, I don't have lids yet. Maybe this week-end. No extra freezer, either. I admit though, I love the scent in the house when gelling I thought I had taken a pic of my sandalwood swirls, but now I don't see it. Oh, and the Confederate Jasmine is incredible. I hope the fragrance sticks when it's cured. I read that red sandalwood powder colors purple or in lesser amounts, lavender. True? I'd like to try some.

Yes, soaping cooler makes a TON of difference in speed. Especially with the florals.

My sandalwood has gone to medium-tan and the swirls are less evident. I did Sandalwood + Vanilla though...
