LOL! I bought a big 8 qt stock pot from Walmart when I began this soapy adventure. I was relieved though to hear that MagicHands uses a plastic bucket because that is what I switched to as soon as I finished up my first tub of coconut oil. It's so much easier to manage than that beast of a giant heavy pot. I found some plastic pitchers at Walmart for $1 that have measurement lines in them!!! I was so excited because I wanted them for swirling and now I know for sure I have half and half. Sometimes cheaper is better.

ok....I'm still a stainless steele pot user, ( sigh)...... trying to figure out how you melt your solid oils in the plastic buckets? Do you use the buckets just to mix in? ( only asking because I have a garage full of them with lids because I've hated to throw them out! )

Now, tell me this...if you find a stock pot at a thrift store, how can you TELL that it's stainless?

And I second the harbor freight thing. We were going there for a drill, then got a wetsaw and a couple other things and ended up at $900 or something crazy like that. The wetsaw was only a couple hundred. Still works great, too!

If it's a stainless steel pot a magnet will stick to it. I asked the same question several years ago

I pulled the metal handle off one of the smaller buckets, and I put my hard oils in there and stick it in the microwave. One minute bursts.

While that's melting, I weigh my liquid oils and fragrances and whatever into a larger bucket that has more room. Dump the smaller bucket into the bigger one - and your oils are cooler because you didn't heat the liquid portion. Also, plastic doesn't retain heat, so if you like to soap cool you'll be ready faster.

For my gigantic collection of other buckets, I found a neighbor who's a painter - he was glad to have them, because he was able to use them for storage of large quantities of paint and doesn't have to buy them at Home Depot any more. I don't know WHAT I'm going to do when he doesn't want any more....

I put my lye and water in the plastic bucket and then heat my oils in a giant glass measuring cup in the microwave so I can just pour it in. The handle makes it really easy to pour into molds or pitchers when it's ready.
