Hi Jessy,

I've never done anything like this either, but would be glad to help out, or be a co-hostess, if you are interested. I'm sure with Magic hands guiding us through the process we'd be able to figure it out. No offense if you would prefer to wait for Magic hands, though... We're all learning here! :)

I like the idea as well. One thing I don't like with some others is they try to set guidelines saying you this in your soap or none of this in your soap, I say lets see what everyone likes to make and wants to share.

There should be no restrictions on ingredients but I think people who are vegans or vegetarians should be able to ask
for animal friendly soaps

Gosh, this sounds exciting. How can I help? I agree that ingredients shouldn't be restricted. This forum has so many creative ideas. However, in the interest of possible allergies/sensitivities, I think we should list our ingredients; if any turn out to be on someone's no no list, they could share that bar with a friend and get their feedback.

It can actually be fun to do theme swaps - say, everyone uses a particular ingredient, and you see what everyone makes - but this first one can be a general swap. Those are good, too. :)

Let's start with a signup list - if you want to join this swap, put your name on the list. I'm guessing that you'd have to get your soaps in the mail by July 15th - that gives everybody six weeks.

I'll sign up. If I'm understanding this, we can send any soap? How many do we send? If it's more than a couple of bars, I'll need to know so I can make a batch right away so that it can be ready by then. I'll be leaving town next week for awhile. thanks.

Ok, I'm interested too. But before I add my name to the list.... let me ask you this. What would everybody think about just doing half-sized bars? Say 2.0 to 2.5 ounces? That would be more than enough for us to get a feel for each soap but would save on shipping. And the biggest reason is....I don't know about the rest of you..... but I've got a ton of soap to test of my own and I frankly wouldn't be able to use up 9 full sized bars.

Then again, I've never been in a swap so this may be a dumb suggestion. Just let me know.

Thanks,
zeo

I don't care what size bars you send, although it's traditional to send full size for swaps - but you guys can do whatever you want.

I don't think it will make a difference on shipping, though - I'm planning on flat rate boxes. If few enough people sign up it might go to flat rate envelopes. I'll do the cheapest method possible, but I can't promise ahead of time that it will fit in a smaller package (until I have everything in my hot little hands), so everyone should plan on $9.85 just to be safe.

I'd like to sign up also. Thank you, so much, Magichands, for taking this on. I'm fine with Paypal (at least I've used it in the past). Shipping nowadays is always a bear, so whatever is easiest and works best for you will be fine.

I was thinking that maybe we can alternate hosts- that way the work wouldn't just be on one person.

Yes, Thank you so much for getting us started and for hosting Magic. I agree about the shipping, I don't think it would make much difference on the cost. I do think however, we should all be consistent on the same size bars. I don't sell my bars so I would need to know what a normal size bar would be. I cut mine about an 1" thick, but they do shrink. Do I need to cut them a little thicker to compensate for this? I have a soap log mold that my husband made for me that's 12" in length so I think I would have plenty of wiggle room to get 9 bars.
