Silly question probably...what sort of salt do you use? Dead sea, himalaya, sea salt? I've never tried salt soap, but I'm itching to give it a go!!

Oh oh...can I tag onto BritSoaper's question and ask one too? What about iodizied vs. non-iodized salt? Does that matter?

Thanks,
zeo

I just use regular table salt. Dead or sea salt still has moisture in it, which could make your soap weep.

I've heard of people having poor results with dead sea salt because of the higher moisture content, so I'd avoid that. Table salt works very well. I generally use fine sea salt, but it's very similar to table salt as far as results go. I've never noticed a difference in idoized salt vs. non-iodized.

For initial batches, I'd use the cheapest salt I could get my paws on. :)

I've got an orange cream salt log on the table right now. It's been about 4 hours and I'm debating on whether or not i should cut before bed. What happens if I don't ?

And, as nervous as I was about this puppy, it was the best soap of the night!

I find if I don't cut mine within about 4 hours, it too hard to cut and it crumbles.

Oh, how exciting redfishingirl!. I'm trying to get my nerve up. Did you have any trouble (i.e. learn anything) you want to share with this salt-bar-maker wannabe?
