So if you were to eliminate palm oil from your recipes, what would you recommend replacing it with except tallow, lard kind of creeps me out :mrgreen:

Thank you Laura, so basically, you just eliminate the palm and incorporate that measurement into the other oils. Thanks again.

I think the Castor Oil helps. Yes?

Also a little Beeswax goes a long ways. I'm looking forward to adding Beeswax to my softer bars.

Too much castor will make your soap soft.

Sodium lactate or a little bit of beeswax helps with the hardness.

If you make CP and add castor to superfat, you are making it harder on yourself than it needs to be. The lye is still active at this point and it will take whatever it wants. Lye will not choose castor over coconut or anything else for that matter.

Add all your oils and butters up front. Lots easier that way and you won't forget anything. :)

I've chosen not to use Palm Oil because of the environmental impact....but it really is a personal decision...

Oh, and because someone asked - if you need large quantities of sustainable palm, you can get them at Columbus Foods (Soaper's Choice). If you just need a little bit, look for Spectrum Organic Palm Shortening (most health food stores carry this). :wink:

there are many natural things out there. if you live anywhere around where amish live look for bulk food stores. they sell tons of herbs, and spices that you can use to color and scent soap.
