I'm not adding baking soda to liquid soap. I attempted to make sodium lactate per BrewerGeorge's post on October 2, 2015.

Interesting. I've been dissolving the lye in water, letting it cool, and then adding the whey to come up to the total amount of liquid. I was using whey for the whole liquid until I realized that the lye had not dissolved, and I had to throw out a batch of soap. I was adding the lye very slowly to keep the mixture cool. I figured that using whey was sort of like using milk, and most of what I've read has said not to let the milk heat up.

I'd rather make SL with whey and lye than boil the whey down. Maybe I'll try a batch using whey for the liquid again, let the liquid get hot, and see what happens.
