Teach Soap

"Technically" you don't need to list the ingredients for soap...your label can just say "soap". But if you do list them, you have to list ALL of them. (that includes any preservatives that are in your liquid colorants, etc.) As an alternative, you can say "Saponified oils of" and then list the oils and leave out the sodium hydroxide as it's implied by stating "saponified". You still need to list additives, etc. According to the FDA, you can use the actual ingredient name or the INCI name. They're kind of vague about it.

We cant use band labels as they get shop worned too quickly. Have you thought of shrink wrapping them with the bands?

Genny I'm not following you , get your soap tested??? Wouldnt' a person know the (most to the least) of ingredients in a soap recipe they made?

I haven't decided on labeling yet. I am a newbie to this. I don't want people to know where I live for my own protection and I don't have a business phone yet or a house phone, (it's complicated) My honey and I travel for his work and stay in motels, 6-9 months out of the yr. Cell phones don't work @ home. I don't want to use the hotel number because we move from job to job state to state and so on. So, I was wanting to only use my email address to communicate with. Could this work for now?? When I list my ingredients should I start with my oils and then lye and then fo's and colorants?? I am solely using FB and word of mouth for now. I do plan on selling this summer @ flea-markets and such. Hopefully by then I can have a number to add. Really, don't want people to know my home address, because of the fact we are not there and our closest neighbor is 2 miles away!

I make my soaps in the hotel room, Can I just use our Rd name, city, state and zip?? This is so frustrating. I am too small a business and haven't made any profit yet at all. I want to do this the right way though and def. can't afford the insurance either! I know it's my butt if someone does feel the urge to sue. I want to make $ first before I go and buy a business phone and ins. I have checked and doublechecked and I can't get business ins. through our agent becuase it's in the soap/cosmetic category and they don't cover that. I was told anyhow and it's State Farm. The Soap Guild is outrageous for dues at this point in my game too.
