Okay, I finally did a search for polypropylene instead of coroplast and found Jer's awesome post about using the corrugated liners. Seems from that post, that sticking was a problem for him too, and like me, he had to cut his logs out with a knife. I scoured this thread again and realized that Luigi said that he doesn't lubricate the liners. Luigi, do you stick your mold in the freezer like Itspennylane? Jer, have you tried the freezer trick? Wondering if mineral oil or the freezer is the better way to go, or if it just depends on the makeup of the soap. Maybe soap without a high olive oil content will pop out of an unlubricated poly liner readily, but soaps like mine or Jer's need either mineral oil before or to sit briefly in the freezer later.

Holy Batman - long thread!

I couldn't help but think of this post by Amanda at LovinSoap which seems to touch on some of the methods a few of you are using here but with extra pics and instructions too:

I myself just use a wooden mold and line it with freezer paper. I sorta hate doing it but I have a very slick system for folding the edges of the paper in a certain way that make an excellent, nearly crease free soap log. Almost like wrapping a present but inside-out-reverse sorta kinda (if your brain works that way you'll know what I mean ... lol).

I went back to freezer paper after fighting with the corraplastic, the whole wrapping inside out deal. I just picked up some cheapy cutting mats to give those a whirl.

I use freezer paper in my wooden molds and can get a lining done in about 2 minutes. 4 folds and 4 cuts and it's ready to go. Sometimes I even get a little wild and fold & cut more liners than I need so I'll have extra on hand.

I line my molds that fast too. It is a breeze. I just cut two pieces one for width wise and the other lenght wise down through the nmiddle of the mold. I get a pencil and mark the size and cut. If I have a lid I use it to measure..

But how do you keep the soap from leaking through the corners? When I line my moulds I use one continuous piece of freezer paper so nothing ever leaks out anywhere ... but the folding part is a PIA :)

Karri, I cut my paper so that it goes from the bottom of one side (outside measurement) of my mold to the bottom of the other side. Then I center my paper over the mold and use my finger to crease along all of the inside edges. Then I fold along each crease and make a cut on each short end down to the fold line. Then I fold the short ends behind the other piece on each end to make a box and put it in the mold. Then I fold over and just tape the top edges to the mold to hold it in place. The soap is thick enough when poured that it doesn't leak out anywhere. Hope this makes sense! It's easier to see it being done than to write how it's done!

Linda I think I actually understand the process you're describing! LOL.

So when you cut the down to the crease line at each end do you just cut "straight" in (i.e. not on angle)?

Technically I guess the only part that might allow soap to leak out is a pinhole size opening at the 4 corners, right?

This is a revelation to me! LOL. Hmm ... might have to try this. I've been folding "from the inside" and it's really a totally diff. process. It works but it can be frustrating to get just right.

Kay I'm going to try this with my next batch. I actually love the freezer paper method because it saves cleanup and really don't want to change my molds which I also love. So if I can just make this liner making thing easier than I'm golden! Thanks!!

It's one milestone after another around here ;)

I've been "riding along" with you on your soap biz journey Linda ... it very much mirrors my approach to starting a soap biz. That is, hone my craft, and lay down the foundation for a business in the meantime, bit by bit. There's so much to figure out and learn that I see no point in rushing but just enjoying the ride!

Including discovering better ways to line a mold. HA!
