Teach Soap

Well I but the bullet and moved from MP to CP today and made my first batch. It was interesting to say the least. I had the lye fear and now I am not sure why I had such a fear. I am sure that is with everyone. I made a very basic 1lb recipe and while I have no idea how it will turn out (great hopefully) I am liking the control factor CP soap gives. I do want to make another batch since I still have space in my 12 bar silicon mold but I would like to know how this one will turn out.... oh soap why must you addict me so

Congratulations! Ahh, but you didn't say what kind of soap it is or what color? I hope you had/have the camera ready to make this momentous event!

Here's a pic in the mold.

It is a nice deep yellow almost orangish color. I used olive oil, coconut butter, and castor oil. It's one of the basic recipes from Everything Soap Making book and nicely enough I had everything on hand.

I used those first because I didn't have to order any other oils. I could get them all at my walmart! Now I've been experimenting with palm oil and shea butter, but I'll continue to make both of those. The Olive and Coconut soap is also really nice when made with milk instead of water.

And the addiction begins....... It looks good and I am not sure if you will be able to hold out filling those empty slots.....they are there.....all empty, all alone.......just cryin out for soap.....so alone.....poor empty spaces....just waiting to be filled....walmart open 24/7......... Seriously, congrats and looks good!

Wow.....soapyjoe. Very nice. Much nicer that my first couple dozen batches. Try a different recipe and fill up the rest of those spaces on your mold. If you're only making several bars at a time, measuring in grams would be much more accurate than measuring in ounces. Try a different formula then compare the bars after they're cured. Way to go!

haha you guys are so funny. I am starting to think that those unfilled ones are bugging all of you more than they are bugging me. Though I still have olive oil, coconut butter, and castor leftover. I also have grapeseed oil and sweet almond oil.... hmmm what to make...what to make. I'll have to think about it.

As to the soap addiction: I've had it for a very long time but through MP soap making which is good for the non-patient soap maker I am.

Grapeseed has a fairly short shelf life. You can use almond in a small amount, otherwise it will make your soap soft.

does the grapeseeds self life effect the soap. The grapeseed oil is new for some scrubs I am making.
