Me again.

I can't leave my standard recipe alone without trying something revolutionary (at least for me). Always have to experiment.

Has anyone ever used lanolin butter in their CP? Looking for guidance and possible usage rates.

Go Jets over Pitty and Bears over Pickers

Thanks

It is my understanding that lanolin doesn't saponify.

I found this recipe online. It looks like a good one to try about a 2 lb batch. Lanolin has an SAP value and I can't speak to whether it saponifies or not as I have not worked with it yet (I am playing around with tallow right now). But it seems like it would be very moisturizing and I especially like it because it can be extracted from sheep wool without harming or killing the sheep. I am sure you know this, but run the recipe through a calculator first.

Good luck, I am curious to hear about your experiment.....oh yeah, GO PITTSBURGH!!!! lol

If it did not saponify that would be even better yet, as then it would be the superfatted butter. But if something is given a sap value I would think it would saponify. Might also consider adding to the label, 'do not use if allergic to wool' ???
(And its go Packers, not the pickers! )

Thanks CityMouse. I may try that recipe and see if I can derive a SAP value based on the other know ingredients. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Yes, my friends and some acquaintances call me Mr. Pittsburgh. But Love2dostuff, that doesn't concern anybody here. Someone I know has been putting her nose where it doesn't belong. One might want to make sure it doesn't get caught in a mousetrap.

CityMouse you are wonderful! I did not see that previously. Thank you!! I'll make the experimental batch tonight and let you know how it turns out.

And I see that you are from New York and you are wanting to see Pitty'sBurgh victorious? You're not a Jet's fan? Shame......

I know what you mean CityMouse!!! I love both places.

And yes, Celeste.....you are incorrigible. My friends call me Mr. Pittsburgh because I won a contest there several years ago. It was a fundraiser for Duquesne Hospital Children's Wing. I volunteer time for Kids, Seniors and animal rescue when I can. Yes, I played for Chicago but lived in Pittsburgh most of the time. I love Pittsburgh....it's a beautiful city, just like Chicago. Two or 3 weeks before the fundraiser the "Pittsburgher" magazine came out and I was voted the city's most eligible bachelor (before I was married of course and how I met my wife). Don't ask how they determine or who voted because I have no idea. But there I was, mug shot on the cover and a full bio. An editor thought it would be a great human interest story to do a bachelor auction where affluent women would pay for a chance to have a date with one of several guys, me being one of them. Proceeds going to the Children's hospital for equipment. I was auctioned off to the granddaughter (she's about my age) who is an heiress to Pennsylvania's largest private bank. Well, things didn't go so well. I'm a gentleman and have always treated everyone respectfully.....not just women. This young lady (and I use the term "Lady" very "loosely") had varying opinions on what constituted a good time. Bottom line is I woke up the next morning in a very compromising position. Funny how I didn't remember anything after that drink I had (ruffie) at her friends place. But it all worked out because my future wife was at the auction and knew of the granddaughter's previous "dates" and came to my rescue. That's it. Happy now Celeste? Now can we please return to soapmaking?

Sveta tells it much better and you are a good man. oh and can i please try your sea mud soap and this soap after it is ready? thank you for your experiments for the rest of us. Celeste.

Ok.....can somebody else please take a turn being her soapmaking friend for a while?

I mixed my standard recipe and added the melted lanolin butter at trace at 5%. Not a pleasant smell but hopefully the Vanilla Bean FO will cover the natural fragrance of the lanolin. Thanks everyone for your assistance.

Wow, another soap that has a bad odor to it? I think I will stick to my mango butter.

And thanks for the story: I'm hoping that the childrens hospital came out ahead, and of course it seems as if all of that was worth it if you met your wife! 8) . Carry on.....
