Can anyone give me any tips on making soaps with wine? Any information would be appreciated!

Boil off the alcohol and make sure that it's VERY cold. Be aware that neither the scent nor the color will come through.

Thank you for the info! What would be the point of using wine then? Are there other added benefits?

Of course I tried this before. I'll try to make soap out of anything. In Italy we don't use fancy names for wines. We have "red" and "white".....period. Americans who drink wine like to order fancy Italian labels. If it's Italian wine, it's good. Red or white....don't complicate things.

I made mine with red out of the fridge. Didn't boil off the alcohol but I would do it if I made it again. Not boiling off the alcohol made the lye mixture have a think film which then transferred to my soap which I had to scrape off before packaging. The lye mixture turned putrid green as soon as I added the lye but then after about 30 seconds started turning a crimson red....much more to my liking. However, the finished soap turned out a medium brown.

If I may make a recommendation. Try using BB's "Berry Wine" to scent the soap. If you don't have any, wait to make the soap until you order some and it arrives. It smells just like a good berry heavy Merlot that opens up nicely in a large snifter. I make this and package it together with the "Ale & Aloe" shampoo made from beer. They both sell very well. Seriously, try the "Berry Wine". You'll be glad you did.

Supersoaper got lucky. If you don't boil off the alcohol, you can end up with a lye volcano.

You're getting to know me too well Soapbuddy. I've done well and retired much earlier than I should have. Now I just have too much time on my hands. And there is no better way to spend my time than to mingle with other soapers. "Push the envelope" ? That's an idiom I have not heard until now. I have been brushing up on idioms and admittedly, when you must translate before you speak, sometimes they don't make sense in translation. Can you tell I've been practicing idioms? Obviously English isn't my first language....or even my second but my third. I keep practicing but humor is one thing that doesn't translate very well.

I wish I had a list of everything I've tried soapmaking. I think the best so far that turned out was the soap I made using watermelon drippings. Made a fabulous soap probably because of the natural sugars.

Watermelon drippings that sounds so delish! What color was that bar? Can I buy one!

Pushing the envelope, living life on the edge, adventurous, taking chances, producing an edgy eye popping fabulous and catchy product no one else has done. The cutting edge.

Ah Dave "2001 Space Odyssey" reference. When this film was produced it was quite the sensation, out of the norm literally in space, now that would be living life on the edge in the late 1960's!

I actually have done a honey mead bar and I call it the Colorado Wine Bar. I do hp so I can discount my water by one ounce. After trace and when it gets to crawling out the pot I add the honey mead wine, royal jelly and almond extract syrup. What a smell, and what a treat. One of my best bars, one sniff and women and men can't resist.
