While I'm not proficient in English (especially speaking), I believe the proper word term is oxymoron. If not, please excuse my symantics. I have been asked to make soap from Dead Sea Mud. To me, making soap from mud is like "wanting" to put on weight over the holidays......sorry but makes no sense to me.

I envision making a batch of soap, then at trace adding fragrance and a couple tablespoons of mud, mix then pour. Using a water discount of course.

Anybody have any experience with this sort of thing? I'm very open to thoughts and suggestions. I tried searching previous topics but there wasn't much information out there regarding usage rates and/or methodology.

Thanks.

I've never worked with mud but Id think it was for the minerals and texture effect. Kind of like useing clay in soap. But I get why you'd think it was counterproductive.

Sea mud seems to help people with dry skin or acne. Try it. :)

I understand the counter productive thought also. However many animals take dust baths and mud is just wet dust, dirt, clay perhaps. Linda I think you have it people use it for the "unique" minerals found in the Dead Sea. People in Mendocino CA take mud baths and feel it detoxifies their bodies. Laying in warm mud up to your neck for cleansing!

With clay I use 1 teaspoon per pound of oils. It is a wonderful additive for many reasons like slip we recently discussed.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to see what happens. I'm not real good about posting pictures because I don't have the patience but I'll try to be good this time. Also, thank you for correcting my English (seriously). I was struggling to find the correct words for description and counterproductive or counterintuitive are the words I wanted to use....although I doubt I can adequately pronounce either. Thanks again.

So.....I make a 1.5 pound batch of my standard recipe, and at trace mixed in 1 tbs of Dead Sea Mud. And just as I suspected, it looks exactly like muddy soap. It's in a warm oven now where it will stay. Either it will gel, or the sun will turn into a dark black clump of carbon in the sky and all life on earth will cease to exist. Looks like cr@p. Used a bit of BB's Tahitian Vanilla FO for good measure. I'll post results tomorrow when I remove it from the oven. If I disappear......call the president.

Call the president? I think my first choice would be to call Soapbuddy! I'm guessing president Obama knows very little about soap making  Of course then you really did not specify which president you were asking for, now did you?

The CIA actually has a director, Leon Panetta. So if I do not see a post from you tomorrow I will do my best to contact him for you....

Ok. Here's a photo. Didn't turn out very well because I had to keep cropping it and compressing. Max photo size is 12 kb??.....eye of newt is bigger than that.

All was going well until my lovely wife came into the curing room to see what I was up to. She really is beautiful. Has a very unique color to her eyes. When I looked at her and saw green eyes I started running. She's different because when she gets angry her eyes actually change color from a cobalt blue to a deep green. Apparently, the Dead Sea Mud isn't to be used for soapmaking even though that's why I brought it back from vacation (how stupid of me). I'll let her do a few masks and when she gets tired of it, I will confiscate.

In all, the soap doesn't look bad and the texture feels normal like soap should. I made an extra small batch in a chocolate milk container and cut it in half so you can see the texture. Just hope I'm "cleaner" after I get out of the shower than before I go in.

Oh yeah.....regarding the presidents. I'm not sure either the current or former could be very productive in leading interference for my wife after she finds out I've hidden the mud. Will keep you posted. Thanks.
